Prof. Chenis Director of State Key Laboratory of Desert and Oasis Ecology, Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and currently serves as the vice-President of ICRS of IAHS. He is also the president of Chinese National Commission for ICRS, IAHS (CNC-ICRS-IAHS). Prof. Chen is an outstanding scientist with more than 40 years of research experiences in the fields of climate change, water cycle and water resources, eco-hydrological processes in the arid land.

He has presided over 40 large-scale research projects, including National Program on Key Basic Research Project of China (973 Program), National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Key Knowledge Innovation Project of Chinese Academy of Sciences. As the first or the corresponding author, he has published 16 monographs and more than 300 SCI-indexed papers in prestigious journals, such as Nat. Clim. Change, Nat. Commun., Geophys. Res. Lett.,J. Hydrol. etc.

He has over 19200 Google scholar citations, with an h-index of 64, and an i10 index of 504.In 2020 and 2021, he was awarded the Highly Cited Researcher by both Clarivate and Elsevier. He is also the World’s Top 2% Scientistin 2022 based on Scopus. His academic contributions in hydrological sciences have won him several national awards.
